About The Barker Shop

The Barker Shop opened in November of 2004. Since then, we have won hundreds of awards for grooming and we have added such services as photography, self wash, pet retail, daycare, training, and rescue.

Kathy opened The Barker Shop 12 years ago after a 15 year career in sales and marketing in the printing industry. While in the printing industry Kathy completed grooming school at Great Lakes Academy and then groomed out of her home for a year. She then teamed up with Danielle Fox Burns as her grooming manager and opened The Barker Shop. Today the grooming shop is one of the largest, most recognized groomers in the country. The Barker Shop started with just 3 employees and has grown to over 30 people.

In 2012 The Barker Shop was expanded with a doggie daycare, as well as the Bark from the Heart Rescue (a 501c3 charitable rescue). Kathy is completely customer focused with a very passionate love for all animals, which reflects in the experience you’ll have visiting the shop. She is known in the community for not only helping dogs, but helping families in need and people with disabilities. She has made The Barker Shop into a local landmark!

Kathy’s role began not only as a groomer but she also became a pet photographer, creating most of the portraits you see at the shop and on this website. She recently has built www.barkershopphotos.com. And in her spare time from 2008 – 2011 Kathy also created and managed the Chicago Canine Club for Community Support Services, a boarding and daycare facility in Burr Ridge, IL.

Kathy loves all breeds of dogs and cats but some of her personal favorites (which she also owns) include Australian Shepards, Standard Poodles, Leonburgers, Bichons, Goldens, Wheatons, Afghans, Catahoula and Great Pyrenees.
